On this Tuesday 20th December 2016, The World Science Day at National level was celebrated at INES-Ruhengeri. The 2016 World Science Day for Peace and Development is dedicated to the theme “Celebrating Science Centres and Science Museums”. After a tour of INES Hon. Dr. Musafiri Papias Malimba and guests visited exhibition organized in line with the event.
When welcoming the guests, Fr. Dr. Fabien HAGENIMANA, The Rector of INES-Ruhengeri has thanked the Minister of education Hon. Dr. Musafiri Papias Malimba for choosing INES-Ruhengeri to host the important event, World Science Day as the orientation of INES is science based. He continued by explaining to the guests why INES adopted the orientation of applied sciences.
Dr. Marie-Christine GASINGIRWA, Director General of Science, Technology and Research in the Ministry of Education has highlighted the role and importance of World Science Day for Peace and Development, science in society and the need to engage the wider public in debates on emerging scientific issues. She also underlined the importance and relevance of science in our daily lives.
Presentations of research done by INE lectures Mr. NTWALI Janvier and Mr. NKERABIGWI Placide were respectively on agriculture and drone technology.
When addressing to the audience Mr. HABYARIMANA Jean Damascène, the Mayor of Musanze district talked to the opportunities in Musanze district. “As we come to acknowledge that in the exhibition our district has many opportunities we can base on to increase our economy” said Mayor. “Hon Minister, INES-Ruhengeri pays important role implementation of our performance contract through different researches” he added. Mayor concluded by thanking Minister of education for coming in Musanze district.
Minister of Education Hon. Dr. Musafiri Papias Malimba during his speech explained clearly the importance of science in the development of Rwanda. By linking science more closely with society, World Science Day for Peace and Development aims to ensure that citizens are kept informed of developments in science. He also underscored the role scientists play in broadening our understanding of the remarkable, fragile planet we call home and in making our societies more sustainable.
“Thank you to INES to be the first university in Rwanda to use drone technology in education” said Minister of education Hon. Dr. Musafiri
“INES-Ruhengeri is one of high learning institutions to deliver education based on sciences to develop the community that is why we chosen INES-Ruhengeri to host this event.” He added. Hon Minister listed some good projects of INES-Ruhengeri to develop the community like Botanic garden, soil texting and potato seeds multiplication. He concluded by thanking everyone who came to celebrate the World Science Day 2016.
