On this 23 March 2017 INES-Ruhengeri in collaboration with CHARIS Company and ESRI Rwanda have used drone for data acquisition in Busogo, Musanze district in line with land management project. INES-Ruhengeri is conducting a research project on Geospatial Technology Innovations for Land Tenure Security in East Africa (it4land).
The aim of this project is to develop an innovative suite of land tenure recording tools inspired by geo-information technologies that responds to end-user needs and market opportunities in sub Saharan Africa, reinforcing an existing strategic collaboration between EU and East Africa. Participants are University Twente, Westfaelische Wilhelms-Universitaet Muenster, KULeuven, Hansa Luftbild AG, INES-Ruhengeri, Bahir Dar University, Technical University of Kenya and ESRI Rwanda Ltd.
Data acquisition at the first time processed as it was expected, drone took images of good quality within a short time.
In its orientation as institute of applied sciences, INES has embarked in practical education where problem based learning is one approach used. This technology is going to help in reducing land related conflicts, land use consolidation, land mapping, master plan management and better implementation of later.
People around was happy and excited to see drone flying at their first time.
