Imagination is more important than knowledge

Wednesday 6th February 2019, INES-Ruhengeri has pleasure to host visitors, students and staff from AIMS Rwanda (The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences).

The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences is a Pan African Network of Centres of Excellence that offers quality postgraduate education, research innovation and public engagement for the advancement of STEM in Africa’s transformation journey. AIMS Rwanda is the 6th Centre of Excellence in Africa; South Africa, Sénégal, Ghana, Cameroon, Tanzania and then Rwanda.

INES-Ruhengeri as University of Applied Sciences has many things in common with AIMS Rwanda like teaching and promoting science and technology programs which is also in line with government orientation to promote STEM (Sciences, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) programs.  

After INES tour where delegation from AIMS explored INES laboratories and other teaching & learning facilities, the guest had a meeting with INES management and students.

The meeting started by presentation of participants, after what the Vice Chancellor of INES-Ruhengeri, Fr. Dr Fabien HAGENIMANA presented an update on INES-Ruhengeri including INES historical background, academic programs, students and staff figures, partnership, orientation of INES as University of Applied Sciences, research clusters, core values of INES and ambitious of INES.

Prof Blaise TCHAPNDA, academic director of AIMS Rwanda thanked INES-Ruhengeri for its effort in teaching sciences, Academic Director of AIMS shown a great appreciation of INES-Ruhengeri and confirmed that there are many areas of collaboration between INES and AIMS.

INES-Ruhengeri and AIMS signed MoU on 17th March 2018, today’s visit is about exploring and enhance mutual cooperation and partnership.

Both institutions need an active partnership in different areas which will bring helpful results like:

  • Students and academic staff exchange for learning purposes,
  • Joint scientist research on how Sciences, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) can be used as basic elements to create new jobs on the market of Rwanda,
  • Organizing joint national conferences,
  • How AIMS students should use INES laboratories in their research activities,
  • Hosting students for internships,

The orientation of INES-Ruhengeri of being University of Applied Sciences requires to have partners in different domains; industries, research centers, academic institutions in order to help students and lecturers to acquire knowledge from various background.
