On Saturday, 16th June 2018, a delegation of 60 staff and students representatives from INES-RUHENGERI visited Nyamata and Ntarama Genocide Memorial Sites. The two memorial sites are located in Eastern Province, Bugesera District.
Visiting memorials sites is important for INES community; it helps to learn our history based on the real facts and get explanations of what happened in different parts of the country.
During the 100 days to commemorate the Genocide perpetrated against the Tutsi in 1994, people come to visit the memorial sites; it is in the regard that INES delegation took time to visit the two memorial sites within the following purposes:
- To learn lessons from the past;
- To ensure that history is not forgotten
- Focus part of our efforts at the museum on raising awareness, raising consciousness that genocide has caused tremendous consequences , and that we have a long way to go to realize our collective vision of ‘never again”.
“Remembering those murdered for their beliefs is not only about honoring them, their families and making sure the victims are never forgotten but also to fight those who deny such atrocities ever happened”, said Dr. NIYONZIMA N. François, Vice Rector of Academics.
