In the context of 2019 Guangdong 21st Century maritime Silk Road international expo, a conference on China Africa people to people exchange took place in Guangzhou, china from 22nd to 24th August. INES Vice Chancellor was invited by Professor Liu of Beijing University, who is also the Director of the center for African studies in the same university.
Different personalities from Chinese academic and business institutions participated to the conference. African business and academic institutions were also represented. The main objective was to explore how exchange between china and Africa can promote education and youth development. Mostly, Chinese institutions showed the need to partner with African institutions for mutual benefit. The focus was on youth education and development.
The VC had two main interventions during the forum. The first intervention, on behalf of the African community was about the situation of education in Africa and the related challenges of meeting the labor market’s needs. He suggested strengthening the existing ties between Africa and China but also the experience of Chinese education and development in order to develop education which can shift from paper to product.
The second intervention was about how leadership, innovation and technologies have transformed INES-Ruhengeri into a sui generis higher learning institution which brings together theory and practice in order to produce graduates that are fit for the market and development purpose.
The forum was a great opportunity to build partnership with Chinese and African institutions that participated in order to promote developmental education and business amongst youth.
