Microbiology lab

The Ines Microbiology Laboratory is one of many labs in the Departments of BLS and Food Biotechnologies. The main purpose of this laboratory is to teach and facilitate the students of these Departments to learn their practice corses in order for being oriented in their career.

Microbiology lab for the students of BLS almost they use clinical specimen, including feces, urine, blood, as well as possible infected tissue. The work here is mainly concerned with cultures, to look for suspected pathogens which, if found, are further identified based on biochemical tests.

The main pathogens microorganisms are:
Escherichia Coli
Klebsiella spp.
Salmonlla spp.
Shigella spp.
Clostridia spp.
Staphylococcus aureus
Streptococcus spp
Yeasts and Moulds
Serratia spp
Enumeration of coliforms and Total Plate Count

The biochemical tests of the main genera of enterobacteriaceae
Glucose fermentation
Lactose fermentation
Sucrose fermentation
Mannitol fermentation

Methyl red

Microbiological analyses as applied to food. Students learn how to detect and
quantify microorganisms that spoil food or cause food-transmitted diseases, Food born diseases.

In addition the students of Ines they got the additional practical skills from internships they did in different district and referral hospitals therefore the students finished in the departments I have said above are able to perform any test related with his/her career.
