On this Monday 19th March 2018, President of The University of Applied Sciences Cologne, Prof. Dr Mrtin Wortmann, visited INES-Ruhengeri for academic exchange and collaboration purpose.
The University of Applied Sciences Cologne [Rheinische Fachhochschule Köln (RFH)] is a privately run, nationally recognized university of applied sciences. Offering full-time, ‘dual’ (combining studies and training) and continuing-education instruction, students at the University can enrol in 19 Bachelor’s and 12 Master’s programmes. Instruction is offered in the following areas: engineering, media, healthcare management, business & law, as well as logistics management, marketing management and communication management. With an enrolment of approx. 6,500 students, the RFH ranks among the largest educational institutions in Cologne. The course of study is distinguished by small semester groups and a high degree of practical relevance achieved through project-related work, lecturers with experience in the field and close cooperation with the business community.
This university and INES-Ruhengeri have same orientation of being applied sciences, practical university, this orientation pushed both institutions to sit together and see the areas of collaboration.
This President Prof. Dr Mrtin Wortmann and Dr. Luciana Stortoni visited and get explanations of what is done in various INES laboratories, like Material testing laboratory, Hydraulic laboratory, Water quality laboratory, Food processing unit, Food Microbiology laboratory, Clinical Microbiology laboratory, Parasitology laboratory, Molecular biology and Immunoserology laboratory, Phlebotomy and Anatomy laboratory, Chemistry laboratory, Haematology and Immunohematology laboratory, Clinical chemistry laboratory, Tissu culture laboratory, Surveying laboratory, Computer laboratories, Civil Engineering workshops and screen houses.
President Prof. Dr Mrtin Wortmann explained the goals of the visit:
- The first goal of our visit is to get to know INES: get to know the teachers, the programs and the equipment learn about the university’s development plans,
- The second goal of our visit is to evaluate with INES: discuss the possibilities of cooperation in the fields of teaching (mobility of programs, students and teachers), research and knowledge transfer,
- The third objective of our visit: to collect information in order to plan the participation of the RFH and INES for programs financed by German institutions, such as DAAD, BMZ and BMBF, and by European institutions.
When exchanging in conference room, the Rector of INES-Ruhengeri, Fr. Dr. Fabien HAGENIMANA explained the background and the raison behind the creation of INES-Ruhengeri and its new orientation of being applied sciences based institution.
