On this 29th September 2017, inception report on Employment for stability for small and medium enterprises in Rwanda was published where researchers Mr. Gonzalves NSHIMIYIMANA and Mr. Theoneste BAMBUJIJUMUGISHA explained to the audience why this research and the recommendations were given to different institutions private and government.
When opening the conference, The Rector INES-Ruhengeri, Fr. Dr. Fabien HAGENIMANA said that one of the main objectives of any university is research that is why INES in its orientation of being institute of applied sciences conducted this applied research to contribute to the development of our country.
The research has the following objectives:
- Exploring the relationship existing between the employment and stability
- Finding out the role of employment policy interventions in increasing stability and trust.
The research was conducted in ten districts (Nyabihu, Karongi, Musanze, Gakenke, Nyagatare, Rwamagana, Kicukiro, Nyarugenge, Kamonyi and Ruhango) two districts in each province.
The study demonstrated a close link between employment, security, working government institutions and increased trust and the main concern is about the sustainability of the businesses since the majority have not been trained in how to manage the businesses.
The research recommended the following:
- Government should revisit its strategies to increase the potential for self-employment in rural areas. Half of the respondents have less than three years post- primary level.
- There should be a nationally approved curricula and a consistent plan for training SMEs. Every SME should attend the training at least once in five years in order to reduce the number of businesses that fail to mature.
- Mitigating effects of climate change is necessary for high productivity in farming which remains the backbone of people’s survival in rural areas, with strong rural economy, rural unemployment will also reduce and absorb so many sources of social and economic instability,
- Partnership between government and public institutions should continue in fighting manmade sources of instability (such as corruption, exclusion in decision-making process etc) so that trust and self-confidence drive Rwandese entrepreneurial, creative and innovative competences
Mr. NIYOMUTABAZI Germain, Entrepreneurship Development Policy Specialist, in MINICOM thanked INES-Ruhengeri for good important research which contributes to the development of the country.
“I found that after care services for small business is need to reduce the SMSs which fail at startup stage” he said
