INES-Ruhengeri inaugurated a STEM power model center

On Monday 29th November 2021, thanks to the existing good partnership with the Embassy of Israel in Rwanda, the Institute of Applied Sciences (INES-Ruhengeri) inaugurated its STEM Power Model Center.

“The center will be a hub of innovation, industrialization and entrepreneurship especially for the university and secondary school students in the surrounding area”, Bishop Harolimana Vincent, the Chancellor of INES –Ruhengeri said during the event. The Chancellor added that the STEM center shall always be open to youth who will need to develop their capabilities in creativity and technology innovations.

 The Ambassador of Israel in Rwanda, His Excellency Dr. Ron Adam while addressing his remarks appreciated the INES –Ruhengeri for being in connection with the community.

“It is impressive for having students and Headmasters here present from various secondary schools that are surrounding INES- Ruhengeri. We appreciate that INES Ruhengeri strives for transformational education”, the Ambassador said.

The STEM Power Center is equipped with 30 computers and an electronic lab

“The Center will introduce hands on enrichment program in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines for beneficiary’s students”, revealed Mrs. Esther Kunda, Director General in charge of Innovation in the Ministry of ICT and Innovation.

Among notable participants in the event was Mr. Edwin Kumfa, Chief Executive Officer of STEM Power Model Center project.  He told to the press that the Center is aiming at empowering aspirant scientists by providing tools and skills that will help them to learn science by doing it which will ultimately lead to innovative projects that will positively impact lives of people in the surrounding community.

The STEM Power Center has two folders: virtual lab that is equipped with 30 computers and an electronic lab. All equipment will benefit neighboring schools, INES students and the community though trainings as well as entrepreneurship and innovations development.

A MoU between INES –Ruhengeri and STEM Power Model project was signed to ensure efficiency in using the acquired laboratories which will boost the digitalization revolution and innovation in ICT.
