From January 2021, Prof Koni Marfurt from Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts is at INES-Ruhengeri to assist the ICT Team.
Prof Koni graduated in solid-state physics from ETH Zurich (Federal Swiss institute of Technology) in 1982 but was soon caught in the maelstrom of ICT. His first engineering assignments took him to the Far East in the early eighties. Back in Switzerland he focused on teaching physics and computer science.
From 1986 to 1996 he was responsible for what today would be called the “digital transformation of the department of education”.
He returned to Academia in the late nineties focusing on internetworking and what today is called “cyber security”.
His main research area is information security awareness with a special focus on developing countries.
Koni is an expert in networking and cybersecurity technologies and has always dedicated his professional life to empowering other people to improve their skills in those areas. He is always eager to arouse the “curiosité intellectuelle” of his audience forcing them to “look behind the facade” and “put hands on” instead of just memorizing facts.
During the three months of his stay at INES-Ruhengeri with ICT Team, The INES ICT Team will learn a lot from him in the field of networking and cybersecurity. It’s the third time for him to stay at INES-Ruhengeri.
