Prof. Francois
Nsengiyumva, Rwandan citizen, is a scientist and engineer with current research
interest in Soil Physics and Geotechnical Engineering. He has been permanent
academic staff in the department of Civil Engineering of INES (www.ines.ac.rw)
in Rwanda since February 2015, first as lecturer (February 2015 to September
2017), as senior lecturer (October 2017 to December 2023), and as associate
professor from January 2024 to date. He has published extensively research
papers in high quality international scientific journals, has strong track
record in attracting international research grants, and has successfully
implemented a number of large-scale international projects covering the entire
African continent and beyond. His academic experience in teaching at university
ranges from the undergraduate to doctoral level, and has successfully
supervised a good number of undergraduate and postgraduate
dissertations/theses, including doctoral theses. He has excellent international
experience in working with people from all cultural backgrounds, and has
travelled to and lived in a wide range of global environment, including the
United Kingdom (UK), Italy, Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, France, the
United States of America (USA), South Africa, Botswana, Malawi, Nigeria,
Cameroon, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo, and
Burundi. His current work includes the academia-industry linkage, which is
contributing to the creation of new job opportunities and the reduction of the
rate of youth unemployment, one of the current global challenges. He completed
all levels of formal education (up to post-doctoral level in 2014) with
distinction in Physics at each level, and has also received an informal
training in Geotechnical Engineering to continue his research career in this
area. After completing secondary education from the oldest school of Rwanda,
namely, Groupe Scolaire Officiel de Butare (Indatwa n’Inkesha School), in 2001,
he attended leading universities, including the top-ranked university in
Africa, namely, University of Cape Town, South Africa.
