INES-Ruhengeri IIT Students Gain Hands-On Experience During Visit to CIMERWA Musanze Plant

02 April 2025

On April 2, 2025, in Musanze, 41 third-year students from the Information and Industrial Technology (IIT) program at INES-Ruhengeri took part in a hands-on academic visit to the CIMERWA Musanze Plant. The visit offered a valuable opportunity to deepen their understanding of industrial automation systems and observe their practical application in cement manufacturing.

Organized as part of their practical learning curriculum, the visit provided students with firsthand exposure to the intricacies of cement production and the critical role automation plays in modern industry.

Upon arrival, the students were welcomed with a detailed safety briefing focused on general and site-specific protocols essential in industrial and cement production environments. This session emphasized the importance of maintaining strict safety standards in high-risk operational zones.

Throughout the visit, students explored various stages of the cement manufacturing process, observing quality control measures and system operations. A standout moment of the day was the guided tour of the plant’s state-of-the-art control room. Here, students were introduced to advanced automation technologies including sensors, robotics, and programmable logic controllers (PLCs), all integral to the plant's efficient and fully automated production line—from raw material intake to final cement output.

The visit bridged the gap between theory and practice, reinforcing classroom concepts and igniting deeper interest in automation and control systems among the students.

INES-Ruhengeri extends heartfelt thanks to the CIMERWA Musanze Plant for their warm welcome and knowledge-sharing. Special appreciation goes to Eng. Remy for his expert insights, and to Dr. Theodore Habimana, Head of the Computer Science Department at INES-Ruhengeri, who led the delegation.

This educational tour stands as a testament to INES-Ruhengeri’s commitment to providing applied learning experiences that prepare students for impactful careers in technology and industry.
