The Chancellor Announces Salary Increases for INES-Ruhengeri Staff

On December 11, 2024, Bishop Vincent HAROLIMANA, the Chancellor and Legal Representative of INES-Ruhengeri, chaired a meeting that brought together all academic and administrative staff of the Institute of Applied Sciences in Musanze, Rwanda. The event marked a pivotal moment for the institution, celebrating achievements while addressing critical staff concerns.

Staff Representative Highlights Salary Concerns

During the meeting, Eng. NSANZIMFURA Theoneste, the Head of the Water Engineering Department and Staff Representative, spoke about the challenges faced by staff regarding salaries that do not align with the current market standards. He emphasized the need for adjustments to ensure fairness and motivation among employees.

Appreciation for 21 Years of Service

In response, Bishop Vincent HAROLIMANA expressed heartfelt gratitude to the staff for their unwavering dedication over the 21 years since INES-Ruhengeri was established. He stated:

“INES-Ruhengeri, now 21 years since its establishment, is recognized for its promising vision. I take this opportunity to thank everyone who has contributed to shaping INES and those who continue to give their best efforts. Your work is highly appreciated.”

Salary Increases Starting January 2025

Addressing the salary concerns, Bishop HAROLIMANA made a significant announcement:

“As we close the year 2024, we wish to celebrate our achievements together. Regarding the matter of salaries, as mentioned by the representative, I assure you that the coming year will bring positive changes. Starting January 2025, based on available resources made possible through your efforts, we will work towards increasing everyone's salary.”

This commitment underscores the administration’s dedication to staff welfare, fostering a culture of mutual respect and collaboration.

Additional Staff Support: Holiday Gifts

In addition to the salary announcement, the Chancellor revealed that INES-Ruhengeri had prepared Christmas and New Year gifts for staff and their families as a token of appreciation. He concluded with warm wishes:

“I conclude by wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year of 2025!”

INES-Ruhengeri: A Promising Future

As INES-Ruhengeri reflects on 21 years of service, the institution boasts impressive milestones:

• Over 5,168 current students and 952 international students.

• A total of 11,884 graduates.

• A robust offering of 26 undergraduate programs and 11 postgraduate programs.

Bishop HAROLIMANA also unveiled a five-year strategic plan designed to enhance operations, collaboration, and academic offerings. A key goal of this plan is the introduction of PhD programs, a vision echoed by Dr. Rose MUKANKOMEJE, the Director General of the Higher Education Council (HEC), during INES-Ruhengeri’s 16th Graduation Ceremony.

Dr. Mukankomeje emphasized the importance of expanding academic ambitions:

“The Minister asked me to tell you that, while you currently offer Advanced Diplomas (A1), Bachelor’s (A0), and Master’s Degrees, it is time to move forward and introduce PhD programs. If you are ready to launch a PhD program, submit it to HEC tomorrow, and we will fast-track it.”

This initiative aligns with Rwanda’s goal of retaining resources within the country and fostering local innovation.
