Transforming Lives: Beneficiaries of the F2FinRW Project Share Their Stories

21 January 2025

On January 17, 2025, INES-Ruhengeri hosted the 3rd Training Workshop for the Farm to Fork Supply Chain and Ecosystem Project in Rwanda (F2FinRW) Phase 2. Beneficiaries, including farmers, seed multipliers, and traders, shared how the program has transformed their work through cutting-edge tools, stronger networks, and improved resilience. From adopting precision agriculture to streamlining supply chains, F2FinRW continues to empower communities and enhance Rwanda’s agricultural ecosystem.

A Trader’s Journey to Success

Ms. Uwanyirigira Jacqueline, a potato trader based in City Valley, Nyabugogo, credits the F2FinRW project with reshaping her business operations.

Building Networks: "The program connected us with experienced and larger-scale entrepreneurs, giving us opportunities we previously lacked," she said.

Lowering Costs: Before participating, Jacqueline relied on intermediaries who drove up costs and delayed supplies. "Now, the project has helped us link directly with farmers, creating a smoother and fairer supply chain."
This streamlined approach has allowed her to save time and resources, enabling her to focus on expanding her business.

Empowering Farmers with Knowledge and Tools

For Mr. Nibishaka Thadeo, a potato seed multiplier from Bugarama Sector in Burera District, the project has been a game-changer. Operating from a greenhouse, Thadeo is now producing high-quality potato seeds that improve productivity and sustainability.

Knowledge Gain: “The training sessions taught me how to practice market-oriented farming and precision agriculture,” he said. "I’ve also learned the optimal timing for planting and applying inputs, which has made a significant difference in my yields."

Weather Advisory System: Thadeo now uses a toll-free number (6080) provided by Rwanda Meteorology Agency (METEORWANDA) to access real-time weather updates. This information helps him plan activities like spraying and fertilization, enhancing efficiency.

Advanced Technology: Learning about IoT-based tools for soil monitoring has revolutionized his farming, allowing for better decision-making and resource use.

The beneficiaries’ stories underscore the success of the F2FinRW project in addressing challenges faced by farmers and traders. More than 1,000 farmers have received training on potato seed production methods, integrated pest management, and the use of the ShambAssist Agricultural Advisory System, equipping them with the skills to thrive in a competitive market.
